About Me

2009 Pups enjoying their first snow!
Powderhounds Kennel was created back in 2004 after I took a 3rd grade field trip to watch the start of the IPSSSDR. After experiencing the excitement of a sled dog race for the first time, I was hooked on mushing. The very same day as the field trip, I tied Budd, my pet Border Collie, to my plastic sled and we took off on a dog run down the drive way. Soon after, I acquired enough dogs to have a team of six. We competed in our first race in 2006; a 6-dog/14-mile class at the Green River Rondy in Pinedale, Wyoming. My team of 4 old Alaskan Huskies and 2 young Border Collies and I came in second to last place, but that hardly dampened my fire. The following three winters after that, we raced in many six and eight dog classes in various races around Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho and even won a few. In fact, in the 2008/2009 season we placed in the money at every race.

Today, my kennel consists of 21 Alaskan Huskies. Right now, 12 of these dogs are on my racing team. We also have six pups who will be going into harness training soon and three retired racing dogs. Most of these dogs are Powderhounds originals, meaning they were bred and raised here. Budd, my first sled dog also resides here as official team mascot.

Many life changes have been made to facilitate my dedication to mushing, such as switching to online school (I'm currently and Junior at Jackson Hole Connections Academy) so I can spend more time working with my dogs. I also work various jobs in the off-season in order to financially support my kennel. In October of  2010, I moved over 1,700 miles away from my home and my family with 22 dogs and practically everything I own. The end destination was Caribou Creek Kennel in Chatham, Michigan. I came here to train my young dog team and live with and learn from some of the best in the sled dog racing world.

It is with the help and support of my family, sponsors, and many close friends that Powderhounds Racing has grown and evolved into a mid-sized kennel with a good chance at becoming a competitive force in the sled dog racing world. Our many years of careful building are shaping into a viable kennel with large aspirations. My life has, literally, gone to the dogs...
