We've come a long way...

..since 2003. My first sled dog, a Border Collie named Budd, and I first tested the mushing waters when I was nine years old. Since then, I have acquired, lost, and improved dogs, equipment, money, motivation, and lots of hard work to develop my current kennel. Today, Powderhounds is home to 22 Alaskan Husky sled dogs. Some are old...
16 year old Bacchus
some are young...
2010 Puppies Just After Birth

but all of them are an important part of the kennel. Budd, the first sled dog, still resides here too, although he is now the kennel mascot. I am going into this winter with a team made up of 12 dogs all under the age of 3 and one 6-year-old lead dog to guide the yougsters in the right direction. 8/12 of these dogs are Powderhounds Kennel "originals" so to speak- they were bred, born, raised, and trained here. In fact, all eight of them are littermates! The other 4 are dogs brought in from other respectable kennels. I hope that the winter of 2010-2011 will be a great learning, growing, and training period for our team here...dogs and musher!

To help facilitate that growth and learning, Powderhounds Kennel will be re-locating to Chatham, Michigan in October! Champion mushers Lloyd & Mary Gilbertson of Caribou Creek Kennels have invited my dogs and I to spend the winter with them at their kennel and home. In exchange for my kennel labor, they have agreed to mentor me in my mushing endeavors and teach me "tricks of the trade". Of course, I am very excited for this opportunity!

All in all, this winter is promising to be our best yet here at Powderhounds!

Stay tuned for photos, updates, stories, and other information...

Happy Trails!
